Asda employee sacked for his comments on Facebook
Posted by evie001001 on February 28, 2008
Writing my dissertation I have come across something interesting. I have been talking about how people have information on their social networking site profiles (e.g. Facebook) which they would be unhappy for certain people to see. For example, your employer seeing drunken pictures of you. Does anyone remember the story of that Asda employee who created a Facebook group that portrayed the company in a negative light? It was called something like ‘I work for Asda and they’re shit’. Anyway, in January there were a number of signs around Asda’s staff premises explaining that disciplinary action will be taken for posting offensive or negative content about the company on blogs and social networking sites (“Don’t blog your way into trouble”).
It is interesting that any such story can no longer be found in Search engines or on user-generated-content video sites such as youtube.com. Hmm…

Yeah, I Work at asda and one of my
colleagues left a blog on bebo as a joke after he saw the poster,
it basically said it joke etc and said how crap asda was.
He was forced to resign by managers who told him he would be sacked if he didn’t.
ridiculas.

I currently work for Asda and I have seen the posters in the canteen saying “Don’t Blog Your Way Into Trouble”
The management had to pull the posters down eventually because people were writing things on them like “illegal” and “freedom of speech” e.t.c. As for me, I am going to continue to blog about asda, because if they try to sack me I will go to the newspapers and take them to court – HA!

I hate asda so much. After a night out that had nothing to do with asda a fight happened that had nothing to do with me, then i was called into the office to be asked about it , because i told another worker what had gone on in the meeting to cut a long story short i was advised to hand my notice in so i coz if it went to a hearing i would be sacked anyway and id have ‘under invesigation’ on my record. I feel cheated i didnt do anything wrong. The whole verbal and written warning is a loada shit.
